After receiving the university's Admission Notice and the JW202 Form, you may begin preparations for studying abroad in China.

Here are some of the things you should think about before starting arriving in China。

Finances

Making sure that your finances are sorted before you leave for university or college is vital. You don't want to end up with serious difficulties paying for essentials such as accommodation (if not taken care of already), food, bills and books.

If you’re in China for a long period of time, it might be worthwhile to set up a bank account once you arrive in China.

Insurance

In order to protect the safety of international students during your stay here, all international students should have medical insurance. The cost is RMB 600 for one year.

Accommodation

Checking the suitability of your accommodation is vital as well as knowing how and when it needs to be paid for.

Transportation

It’s a good idea to find out how to get to your university from the aiport, train or bus station before you arrive. If you are being picked up, make sure you know where to meet and how to identify the person meeting you. If you take a cab, make sure you have the address written in Chinese characters and enough cash in RMB to pay for the ride. Most Chinese cities also have a shuttle bus service or high speed train connecting the airport to the city center.

Things to take

Start writing a list of things to take well in advance to avoid forgetting something. It’s a good idea to check the climate of your destination city so that you can pack appropriate clothing. Most things can be bought in China relatively cheaply, so don’t worry if you can’t fit everything you think you’ll need.

Pack items you need to use when you land in your carry-on luggage and always keep it in your sight.

• Your passport, visa, related health certificate and other important documents.
• Map of your host city.
• 500-1000 RMB in cash when you first arrive for transport and check-in. You can also change currency at the airport.
• Extra batteries.
• Address and phone number of your university admission office (CUCAS’s phone number is 010-82865135).
• Electronics (cell phone, laptop etc.)
• A power converter and adapter plugs. China's electrical system operates at 220 volts.
