
Different educational programs have different requirements. Recreational, personal interest or beginner Chinese language programs usually have no special requirements. Degree programs often require good grades.
Programs in which Chinese is used in the class room (with the exception of language study classes) require a certain minimum score on the HSK (hanyu shuiping kaoshi, an internationally-recognized test of Chinese ability). Programs with English-language instruction require a minimum level of English proficiency.
