Interview Record: Chongqing University

JiangYan: Hello everyone.

Host: Before anything else, can you please briefly tell us about Chongqing University?

JiangYan: First, I am very pleased to have this opportunity to introduce Chongqing University in China Education Network. Chongqing University is a comprehensive national university directly under the Ministry of education located in Chongqing municipality which is in the southwest of China and downstream of Yangtze River. It is also a member of the Project 211 and Project 985 which aims to transform Chinese universities into world class research institutions.

Chongqing University has 26 colleges and other 9 disciplines. It also has inter-school exchange agreements with 79 well-known universities of 17 countries.

There are students from 76 countries around the world, a lot from France, South Korea, Thailand, and Russia.

Host: What are the special characteristics of the colleges and teaching staff of the university?

JiangYan: In general, Chongqing University is a multidisciplinary engineering-based university, but other areas are also developing rapidly. There are more than 3,000 full-time teachers, of which about 40% of the teachers have doctoral diploma.

Host: Many students are concerned about the school and whether or not there are English courses. Can you tell us what courses are taught in English?

JiangYan: English is used as a medium of instruction and is also a feature of our university. We now have five full-Master courses taught in English, which are software engineering, urban and environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and communications engineering. We also have some elective subjects taught in English. In addition to teaching courses in English are also outside the schools also have a number of credits may be elective courses in English

Host: Speaking of courses, which course is most welcomed by foreign students?

JiangYan: It is mostly Chinese language courses, agriculture, marketing, trade and economics, business management and engineering for bachelor's degree. Moreover, Master's degree courses like Chinese history, art and culture and education also attract many overseas students.

Host: Are there any scholarship that can be offered to the students?

JiangYan: Yes there are, as a matter of fact, Chongqing University offers 4 types of scholarship. Any students can apply for it but only qualified ones may get it so you must have the required qualifications to be able to attain this kind of opportunity.

Host: Sounds challenging. Well, aside from details about your university, what about the transportation, expenses and environment?

JiangYan: Our school has a very good studying environment as well as for living. The university dormitories are equipped with the necessary needs of the students. The canteens, library, gym are all located nearby. Living expenses are also very cheap here. Besides, the people here are very friendly so in just a short time, you can gain a lot of new friends.
