CUCAS Launched a Russian Version for Students from Russian Speaking Countries

For the past 10 years, more and more students from Russian speaking countries come to China to study. According to China’s Ministry of Education’s statistics, last year there are about a total of twenty thousand Russian and Kazakhstan students in China. If you include students from Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and other former CIS countries, there will be a total of thirty thousand students.

After “National year”organized by China and Russia in the year 2006 and 2007, the cultural and educational exchange between both countries has greatly increased. More Russian students wanted to study in China, some of the students came to china through the inter-school exchange programs. Due to insufficient knowledge about China’s university, most students find it hard to choose which university would be suitable for them. There’s no application system where one can apply to study in China, and most of the universities’ websites don’t have English or Russian versions that can provide relevant information.

The above situation caught the Chinese government and universities’ attention. CUCAS, established in 2008, had only English version of the website. Even so, there were about ten thousand students from Russian speaking countries who inquired to CUCAS. Also, there were 300 students had submitted their application through the website.

On 31st of November 2009, CUCAS (www.cucas.edu.cn) would launch a Russian version of the website. CUCAS would be using Russian in introducing more than 50 universities. These universities welcome all students from all the Russian speaking countries. The universities are also located in the cities where students are most interested in, like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and also some in the northern area of China that’s close to Russia. Through CUCAS' website, the student can search for their desired university and program and apply directly using the online application system.

The Russian version of the website has also provided a lot of convenience to the students. For example, in paying the university’s application fee, most students don’t know how to pay through credit card or by telegraphic transfer. That is why CUCAS encourages the students to pay the application fee through Western Union.
