Entrance Requirements

Each program has its own requirements for entry. Before you start your application, please read the Entry Requirements carefully while you're on the program’s page. Please make sure that are able to meet the requirements and submit copies of the relevant documents.

In accordance with the types of programs, basic requirements of most universities are as follows:

Non-degree programs of Chinese language and culture

  • 18 years old and above;
  • High school graduate or the equivalent;
  • Some universities do not have age or educational background requirements.

Pre-university programs (with non-degree awarded)

  • High school graduate or the equivalent.

Bachelor's degree programs (taught in English)

  • 18 years old or above;
  • High school graduate or the equivalent;
  • Recognized English proficiency tests such as TOEFL or IELTS (English native speakers or those holding an academic degree taught in English need not provide test scores).

Bachelor's degree programs (taught in Chinese)

  • Under normal circumstances, applicants are required to have HSK level 3 certificate or above; or pass the university's entrance examination; (for more on the HSK certificate, please see Chinese Proficiency Test)
  • 18 years old or above;
  • High school or college graduate.

Master's degree programs (taught in English)

  • 18 years old or above;
  • Bachelor's degree graduate;
  • One or two letters of recommendation from professors;
  • Results of recognized English proficiency tests such as TOEFL or IELTS (English native speakers or those holding an academic degree taught in English need not provide test scores).

Master's degree programs (taught in Chinese)

  • Under normal circumstances, applicants are require to have HSK level 4-6 certificate or above; or pass the university's entrance examination;
  • 18 years old or above;
  • Bachelor degree graduate
  • One or two letters of recommendation from professors.

Doctoral degree programs (taught in English)

Some Chinese universities offers doctoral programs taught in English. These programs require applicants to meet the following requirements:

  • Master's degree or the equivalent;
  • 18 years old or above;
  • Results of recognized English proficiency tests such as TOEFL or IELTS (English native speakers or those holding an academic degree taught in English need not provide test scores);
  • At least two recommendation letters from professors.

Doctoral degree programs (taught in Chinese)

  • Under normal circumstances, applicants are require to have HSK level 5-8 certificate or above; or pass the university's entrance examination; (for more on the HSK certificate, please see Chinese Proficiency Test)
  • 18 years old or above;
  • Master's degree graduate;
  • At least two recommendation letters from professors.
