1. Eastern Liaoning University (ELU) Introduction
Eastern Liaoning University is the first provincial university founded in the east of Liaoning Province. It is located in the biggest border city of China—Dandong. Approved by the Ministry of Education PRC, it is set up on the combination of the formerly Liaoning Financial College and Dandong Professional Technological College in April 16th, 2003.
ELU covers an area of 1547mu; the total building area is about 476,000 square meters and there are 16 school subsidiaries included in the University: Economics School, School of S. Korean-N. Korean Economy and Culture, Foreign Language School, School of Art and Design, School of Mechanics & Electronics, School of Clothing and Textile, Medical School, Information Technology School, School of Industrial and Commercial Management, Accounting School, School of Tourism & Hospitality, Normal School, School of Materials & Chemical Engineering, School of Architectural Engineering, School of Agriculture, School of Adult Education. Currently the enrollment of full-time students is over 17,000. There are 1,056 full-time teachers, among whom 70 professors and 548 associate professors. The school has set 35 undergraduate specialties, 34 higher-vocational professional majors. The specialties of Investment & Financing, Computerized Accounting, Hotel Management, Fashion Art and Design, are recognized nationally as experimental specialties for higher vocational education reform.
For many years, ELU has been active in research work, teachers have published more than 370 monographs, translations, teaching materials and reference books, published more than 1817 papers on academic publications in China and foreign countries, undertaken or participated in 86 research projects at provincial and ministerial levels, totally 454 scientific research or teaching achievements have been endowEd with rewards at principal or higher level, and got 16 patents.
ELU always pays attention to international cooperation and exchange, and it has built partnerships with sister universities in S. Korea, the U.S.A, Britain, Canada, Australia, Japan etc. ELU has carried on far- ranging exchange and cooperation with more than 10 universities in S. Korea, which has shown its special territory advantages.
The newly founded Eastern Liaoning University will insist on taking disciplinary formation as core mission in economics, managements, engineering, together with coordinated development of all related majors such as science, agronomy, literatures, pedagogy, laws, medical science etc. ELU firmly will seize the opportunity brought by the opening of Eastern Liaoning Peninsula to the outside world and the revitalization of the Northeast old industrial base. ELU will also try its best to build itself into a comprehensive university with its distinct local teaching characteristics to meet the needs of local economic and social development.
