1. Heihe University (HHXY) Introduction
Heihe University, known as "the pearl of the north", is situated in the city of Heihe in Heilongjiang Province. It stands next to the third biggest city in the Russian Far East –Blagoveshchensk, which is located on the other side of Heilongjiang River. Heihe University is the only regular undergraduate university on the Sino-Russia border.
Founded in 1960, Heihe University was originally known as Heihe Normal College. From its founding to the current day, the University has undergone much changes. It has been known as: Heihe Normal School, the Preparatory Office of Heihe Normal University, the Heihe Branch of Qiqihar Normal University, and the Heihe Branch of Qiqihar University. Finally in 2004 following approved by the National Ministry of Education, Heihe University got its current name. Over the past 48 years, Heihe Universtity has conferred degrees to more than 50 thousand graduates. Its junior college students have made many contributions to the development of society in the northern border area.
At present, the university has 15 departments, that award 17 majors of bachelor degree and, there are 25 fields of additional special education. There is also a Theory Research Institute TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving ) and 4 research institutes. Currently the number of students enrrolled at the University is more than 7,000, including 81overseas students from Russia. The University employs 618, 389of whom are professional teachers, including 142 professors and associate professors. There are 84 prominent teachers from home and abroad, working within the university. And 36 guest professors have been invited to give a lecture here or to work here. The proportion of teachers with Ph.D. or an M.A. is continually rising through the University personnel development program.
The University is continually developing new courses in additional subjects. All the Educational results of scientific research are applied into the teaching practices. During the last three years, the University has made great progress in education and research development. The University has received 56 awards for achievement in scientific research following national or provincial level appraisal. In addition to 5 reference books and 400 research papers, there are more than 40 works and textbooks that have been published. Since 1989, the University has established long-term partnerships with more than 10 Higher Education Institutes in Russia. As the leading regional university, Heihe University has been involved in establishing joint venture for educational exchange and joint management of schools with Russian Higher Educational Institutes. Pushing forward teaching systematically, the University simultaneously puts emphasis on fostering cultural and ethical progress. The University has been awarded many titles of honors, including "Civilized Unit in Heilongjiang Province", "National May-Fourth Red Flag Youth League committee", "Advanced Unit of Ethical construction of Educating System in Heilongjiang Province", "Advanced Group on Ideological and Political Work in Heilongjiang", "Advanced Group on Students’ Affairs among General Institutes of Higher Education in Heilongjiang Province".
