1. Jilin University of Finance and Economics (JLUFE) Introduction
Jilin University of Finance and Economics is a Jilin Province key university under the joint construction of Jilin Province People’s Government and the State Taxation Administration. Located beside the Moony Crescent with a vast forest and water, the picturesque campus covers an area of 1,080,000 square meters, whose construction is committed to "natural, elegant, extensive and profound" with over 300,000 square meters having been completed.
The university was initially the cadre’s training class by Northeast Bank in Jiamusi in July 1946. In March 1950 the class was moved to Shenyang and renamed as Northeast Bank Cadre’s School. In July 1950 the school was moved to Changchun preparing to establish Northeast Bank School. On September 15, 1950, Northeast Bank School was established as the very first post-secondary financial school in the People’s Republic. During the national post-secondary schools restructuring in December 1952, the school was renamed as Changchun Bank School under the jurisdiction of the People’s Bank of China.
The university is committed to enhancing its reputation by disciplines and programs, which has made considerable efforts to develop superior disciplines and feature disciplines, to build a practical and open disciplines system with a distinctive feature and sound structure, and to maintain a systematic growth of disciplines construction. The university now offers 6 fields of study in economics, management, law, arts, science and engineering, boasts 8 provincial key secondary disciplines; 7 primary disciplines conferring master degrees, and 50 disciplines or programs conferring master degrees; and trains graduate students in business administration, law, taxation, statistics, international commerce, accounting, and asset appraisal. It offers 31 undergraduate programs, including 6 state feature programs, 7 provincial feature programs; 1 state top-quality courses, 21 provincial top-quality courses; 1 state excellent teaching group, 4 provincial excellent teaching groups; and 1 provincial teaching demonstration center.
The university is committed to boasting its quality by faculty members, which has attracted numerous renowned professors and experts such as ZHAO Xixian, YUAN Mengchao, WANG Sili, YU Xingyuan, HU Jicun who have made significant contributions. The university now hires about 1000 staff members including 464 full-time faculty members, of which, nearly 300 have senior professional positions, 230 are doctors or doctoral candidates. The university is committed to raising its competitiveness by scientific research. In recent years, the university’s research turns to the topics in revitalizing the old industrial bases in Jilin Province and in constructing Changchun-Jilin-Tumen development and open-up pioneering area, orients to the studies on significant practical issues, and aims at high-quality research findings, which has acquired considerable accomplishments and fine social benefits. Over 6 decades, the faculty members have first published about 10 monographs or textbooks in China, such as Introduction to Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, China Tourism Economics. During the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006~2010), the university had 4 research accomplishments receiving official comments from the state or provincial leaders; published 61 monographs or translations, and around 1000 papers in the core journals, including 561 indexed by SCI, EI, ISTP, CSSCI; won 3 state awards and 32 provincial or ministry’s awards for research achievements, received a research fund of RMB 11,133,400; established 2 provincial key research bases in humanities and social sciences, Jilin Economic Research Center and Marxist Economic Research Center, offering a finer research platform for the faculty members and researchers. The university publishes Contemporary Economic Research, Journal of Chinese On Capital Research Society, Taxation and Economy, which enjoy a high prestige in the Chinese economic circle as state core journals in Chinese language, core journals in Chinese humanities and social sciences, and source journals of Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index. Every year the university conducts nearly a hundred seminars, sponsors or organizes a variety of international or national symposiums, and maintains a close academic exchange with other Chinese post-secondary schools nationwide.
The university has over 18000 registered students, including 10600 undergraduate students, 1175 master students and around 40 foreign students. The graduates are universally acknowledged for their proven ethics and professionalism, whose employments feature a high quality. According to the Phoenix Network, the employment rate and employment quality of our graduates in recent years was ranked No. 24 nationwide and No. 2 in northeast China among the non-"211" (top 100 universities in the 21st century) post-secondary schools.
The university values international exchange and cooperation, who has established intercollegiate ties with over 30 universities in 11 countries including the US, Japan, etc, with which school leaders, scholars and academic research are exchanged annually. Sine 1988 the university has recruited foreign students, and accepted nearly 300 up to now. Since 1999 the university has offered a joint program with Charles Sturt University in Australia now with over 2000 graduates and about 2000 students. The "2+2" programs (2 years in China and 2 years abroad) with Kangnam University in Korea and Teikyo University in Japan have also enjoyed a promising tendency. Together with East China University of Science and Technology, Yunnan University of Finance and Economics, Tianjin University of Commerce, the university has established the "Shangri-la Universities Association (SUA)" with the University of Newcastle in Australia, pushing forward to a finer and higher Sino-Australian educational cooperation.
The university enjoys nice facilities. Within the new campus are a modern library with a collection of over 2 million volumes, a spacious lecture building, a fully equipped lab building, a standard gymnasium, and first-rate student dormitories and cafeterias.
The university was recently titled "Model Collective" of Jilin Province, model school in "Running School By Law" of Jilin Province, winner of "May Day Certificate of Merit" of Jilin Province, selected as a state base of cultural quality education for post-secondary students in 2006, and rated "A" in the national evaluation of undergraduate education by the Education Ministry in 2007.
