Introduction of Mianyang Teachers' College

Mianyang Teachers’ College is a state-owned full-time institution under the supervision of the Department of Education of the People’s Government of Sichuan Province. It is located in Mianyang, the National Civilization City and the Science and Technology City in China, hailed as the “land of prosperity and happiness and the silicon valley in the West.” It is also the birthplace of China’s greatest poet Li Bai.

2002 witnessed the founding of Mianyang Teachers’ College through the merger of the former Mianyang Higher Teachers’ College and Mianyang Education College upon the approval of the Chinese Ministry of Education. Significant developments have followed its founding–being authorized to confer bachelor degrees in 2006, serving as a pilot unit to meet the special needs of the state’s projects in 2011, and being approved to grant a professional master’s degree in environmental engineering. The college has accumulated its contributions over the past years–striving for self-renewal, struggling amid difficulties, seeking pragmatic innovation, and sustaining lasting excellence as its spirit, managing the college with student-centered governance and serving local society with intelligence as its educational philosophy, stressing morality, amplifying knowledge, persisting in action, and enriching willpower as its motto, playing a more prominent role in promoting public education to perfection with unremitting efforts as its professional demeanor, placing emphases on learning and thinking and combing knowledge with practice as its rigorous academic atmosphere. MTC is making every endeavor to become a first-tier regional applied university with distinct features and outstanding advantages.

Covering an area of about 2000 mu (133 hectares), the college consists of two campuses: Youxian and Gaoxin. The college is subdivided into 16 schools, offering 51 undergraduate majors derived from 9 fields of disciplines, such as Literature, Education, Natural Science, Management Science, Engineering, etc. Over the years, more than 130,000 students have graduated from the university.

In 2014, the college began recruiting overseas students and has cultivated international students from nearly 20 countries. MTC has vigorously promoted international cooperation and exchange under “the Belt and Road Initiative” in recent years. Besides, it continues cooperating with many universities and research institutions in Germany, the United States, South Africa, and other countries and regions to carry out teachers’ training, scientific research cooperation, academic exchanges, student exchanges, and other activities.
